Inviting entries for the Kala Ghoda Fiction Writing Workshop

The Literature section of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2007 invites you to participate in its Fiction Writing Workshop on February 3 and 4, 2007. The workshop will be conducted by Neeru Nanda, author of the short story collection, If.

Our workshop has been highly popular both the years that it has been held. So popular, in fact, that this time we’ll have to restructure our entry system. Due to the overwhelming response expected again, the participants will be selected by Neeru through a screening process.

Date: Day long sessions on Saturday, Feb 3 and Sunday, Feb 4.

Venue: Elphinstone College.

Deadline for submissions: January 25.

Shortlist: The 20 selected participants will be informed by January 25-31.

Description: A two-day workshop, with basic writing exercises on the first day, and the second day reserved for your particular work.

Basic exercises:

· Reviewing and working on the same story from different points of view.

· Idea generation from sources like the day’s newspapers.

· Idea generation from a field trip around Kala Ghoda.

· Critiquing stories by the masters of the art.

Advanced exercises:

· Critiquing your story.

How to Apply:

To participate in the workshop, you must send in your contact details and a writing sample of 500 words, of fiction. (This is not a poetry workshop.)

Here is a step-by-step guide to ensure the best results:

  1. Fill out the following information onto Page 1 of a two-page document in this order:

    Name:

    Address:

    Telephone No.(s):

What do you hope to learn in this workshop?

  2. On Page 2, copy out a sample of your best fiction piece, not more than 500 words.
  3. Rename your document, according to this protocol: KGWW_NameSurname. For example, if your name is Tina D’Costa, your form should be called KGWW_TinaDCosta. Please stick to this format, these little things will make filtering and organising that much more effective at our end.
  4. Send this document to kg.writingworkshop@gmail.com and address your mail if any to Neeru. Your email subject line should read: KGWW Submission.
  5. For other queries, please write in at the above address, but first check out this site ( kgwritingworkshop.blogspot.com) for updates.
